I wouldn't say useless, the best thing about it in the long run is the social class and status. Successful adventurers will soon get their hands on a chainmail cuirass and large shield if they want it. But I'm thinking of rearranging my restriction table so shields work more like they did before anyway so we'll see how that looks.Eddie wrote:
the knight talent suddenly becomes useless as you cannot start with high enough armoured combat skill to use the equipment.
Well if it is saved money I reckon if you can save 20gp for a leather cuirass you can save 25 for a hauberk. But I suggested in the starting equipment thread some other sources for the gear that might be more likely than saving.Eddie wrote:
starting equipment is, I believe, intended to be sparse as you've saved up all your money to "become an adventurer"
Yeah daggers are pretty useless against even half decent armour. That doesn't go away if you use default starting equipment, you just put it off an adventure or two. The answer isn't stop characters from getting leather hauberks and shields, it's give the monsters decent weapons!Eddie wrote:
one had Skill 6 and Armour 2, had leather hauberk and large shield with armour training talent: 2 in 3 chance he took 2 less damage than rolled. made goblins with daggers all but pointless, so I think it works fine as it is personally.
