Ooh, this is a nice one. I get my romance, comedy, and heartwarming drama all in one single book.

Dan Sanderson:
I donated six prizes to the Interactive Fiction Competition 2014. As a surprise for the winners that selected my prizes, I made a little puzzle chain game. Here’s how it went.
Mid-winter means deep-freeze for the IFComp proper. We will start sprouting from the thawed soil in the springtime, putting out a call for entries for this year’s competition. Happily, the larger world of IF competitions offers plenty of activity in the meantime. Some links of note:
Carolyn VanEseltine late last year announced ParserComp, a new, ranked competition specifically for parser-based IF works. Interesting from an IFComp perspective as it aims to have a field of entries resembling that of IFComp from years past, prior to the more recent explosion in variety of form. (Not too long ago, the very term “parser IF” would have seemed entirely redundant…)
The first-draft deadline for entries is February 1, so rather too soon to enter for those learning about it only now, but all the nearer for everyone else looking forward to seeing the outcome of this new event. In the meantime, Carolyn’s published a nine-part tutorial about creating parser-based games with Inform 7.
Spring Thing has been around for many years, starting life specifically as an event to fill the long months in between IFComps. This year, however, organizer Aaron Reed has recast it more as an exhibition than a competition, de-emphasizing rankings and making it open to a much broader range of works than even IFComp. Entries are due March 1.
Emily Short posted a deeply comprehensive writeup of the IF community’s many competitions, anthologies, zines, and shows, past and present. Both of the above events appear there, as does the IFComp and myriad other efforts from people who just can’t help inventing new ways to generate IF work and discussion. Absolutely worth a read-through.
As an indie developer and interactive fiction author, I’ve worked in Unity, Unreal, GameMaker, Construct 2, and of course Inform 7.
I’ve done more with Inform 7 than anything else. I’ve written quite a few games and a quick-start tutorial, and I’m currently … Keep reading →

Hi everyone!
Just a minor housekeeping note – I’ve rearranged the site so that Game Dev Resources is now its own category. Game Dev Resources currently contains links to the Inform 7 Quick-Start Guide, the Inform 7 Resources page, and the brand new Art and Audio Assets … Keep reading →
This weekend, I participated in Global Game Jam ’15, an international event where participants create games in 48 hours based on a theme. It’s a good break from the usual – a chance to take on roles and work with … Keep reading →
There is some good stuff here, If only the author hadn't tackled this story like she was writing a self-help book.

Ugh, there's a knight here who spends all the time moping and feeling sorry for himself, while the wife does all the heavy lifting.

I found this question on /r/askreddit and thought it would go perfect here.
OP gave limitions, but for more fun we can answer this question freely.
Suns are exploding! And yet, the title and the cover art are easily the most exciting aspects of this gamebook.

“There is a loud explosion, and a twenty-foot hole appears in the far wall, burying the dwarves in the rubble. You march through the hole and find yourself in the main office, where a cheering band of friendly elves carry the conquering adventurer off into the sunset.” – Adventure by … Keep reading →

I don't understand the heroine. I think I'd like her better if she's dead. Not undead, because then she'd still make noise. Just dead.

I love the first half of this book to pieces. I wish I can trade the second half for something else.

A TBR Challenge 2015 review. If this fabulously trashy story is anything to go by, we all need a redneck romance genre right away.

This is charming modern-day semi-epistolary short story, but then again, it's short. I can hardly feel a thing.

This is another list for the benefit of Arisia panel attendees. In this case, it’s a list of games we discussed in the “Video Games as Art” panel.
Most of these games were mentioned as examples of games that succeeded in their artistic goals. Some were not. I’m not going … Keep reading →
